Norway

-The Gifts

Already in late November Norwegian homes are decorated with ornaments in the shape of angels, candles and, of course, Santa Claus.

The weeks preceding Christmas are spent with friends and colleagues for a pre taste of what the “Julebord” (Christmas table) will offer with delicatessen such as “Svineribbe” (Crisp ribs of Pork), “Pinnekjött” (dried ribs of Muton) or “Lutfisk” (Stockfish).

On Christmas Eve at 17.00 the church bells all over Norway are ringing for Christmas and the choir “Silverboys” mark the beginning of Christmas.

Having eagerly been waiting for the Christmas Gifts under the Christmas tree to be opened, the highlight of the day, for big and small, is of course a visit by “Julenissen” (Santa Claus).
